Bio

Varkaus based Unski Immonen (born 1981) works with paintings, photography and animation. His work discusses about social and political questions such as identity, power, shame and empathy. He works using both digital and analogical methods. Immonen uses picture material found on the internet, magazines and movies as well as his own performative photographs which he himself often poses in. The movies, television, advertising and media offer a certain picture of the world. When we look at photographs or scenes from a movie, what do we actually see and how much do our minds fill in? These questions are the center of Immonen's work. By questioning values that advertising, politics and media offer, we can reveal unpleasant truths about society and ourselves. Immonen has gratuated as Master of Fine Arts from the Finnish Academy of Fine arts in 2015 and as Visual artist from Art School MAA in 2011.
