Bio
Anne Koskinen (born 1969 in Helsinki) is a visual artist and researcher at the intersection of philosophical aesthetics and linguistics.
Koskinen's works often deal with human existence and our relationship with our environment. In visual art, Anne is fascinated by the process by which material becomes an image. This is something she wants to witness using a range of techniques from stone sculptures and bronzes to drawings, watercolours and oil paintings. Many of her works are multi-part installations, and she has also created several public artworks. The ideas of sustainability and responsibility guide her work, which is why she prefers to use local materials and make her works herself.
Koskinen's works are included in several private and museum collections in Finland and abroad. In addition to her artistic activities, Koskinen has worked as principal of the Pori Art School and as professor and dean at the University of Art and Design Helsinki (now part of Aalto University). In 2010, Koskinen was nominated for the Ars Fennica award.
