About the website

Maintained by the Artists’ Association of Finland, the Artist Register is an index of Finnish and Finland-based professional artists. It covers more than 2,000 contemporary artists. The purpose of the register is to promote Finnish art and to showcase the work of artists.

The first Artist Register was printed by the association in 1926. The register, known at the time as Kuvataiteilijat (‘Visual Artists’), was also printed in 1943, 1962, 1972, 1979, 1986, 1991 and 2004. Since 2010 the register has only been published online. Information in the current register is in part based on the earlier printed versions.

The Artist Register contains a wide range of information about artists who work or have worked professionally in Finland. The database can be searched by artists or by art discipline, and it also contains information about prominent artists in the history of Finnish art. Artist presentations cover information about the practice, works and artistic activities of the artist. Information in the register is also designed to assist potential buyers.

Only professional artists are accepted into the register. Artist-members of all the member organisations of the Artists’ Association of Finland (Artists’ Association MUU, Association of Finnish Sculptors, Association of Finnish Printmakers, Finnish Painters’ Union  and Union of ArtistPhotographers in Finland) are automatically eligible to join the register.
