Artist’s Statement
Already since my studies in Italy I have used fresco painting -technics, that I learned there, applying it in the actual idea. I have all the time been interested in numerous possibilities that this technics even with it's scarce colour range and rough materials offer. In my works I combine painting, drawing and writing on the minerals; stone and earth pigments. By side of working with fresco Especially during the phase of sketching I use photographing and watercolours.
I benefit the old handicraft methods in many phases to achieve the result. They are originally tecnical solutions, which have become in my works a part of the meaning. I combine both old ways for example in transferring sketches on the fresh plaster surface and complicated means, used by the conservators, to detach and move mural painting from a wall to an other place. The materials and layers are a part of the history of the piece of art. The spirit of the place and time I may describe together with drawings through materials, through their scarcity or richness. I may mix in the mortar crushed shells, powdered abandoned bricks, barbecue coal and eggshells .-I have returned to use also softer materials expressing visually also with looms, the thing or weawing that I studied before fine arts studies.
