Artist’s Statement

I paint based on reality and observations of both the outer and inner worlds. I strive to highlight the beauty and goodness around us, but I am also committed to raising questions and bringing forward what is unseen or not discussed at all.

My paintings often become abstract yet expressive, and I always carry my own narratives within them. I frequently write down thoughts and reflections related to the theme I am working on, often in the form of poetry.

A constant part of my drive is an everlasting curiosity — a desire to keep learning and discovering new things. A spilled drop of milk on the table can become the impulse and the beginning of a landscape, a painting, or an entire series of works.

I am also an idealist who believes in change and in the importance of every small contribution. I engage in issues concerning the environment, human well-being, and existential questions. At the moment, sacredness is an important theme in my work.

I want to offer hope and joy despite the heaviness and hopelessness that surround us.

Bio

I was born in Sweden but have lived most of my life in Finland. I hold a professional degree from the Free Art School in Helsinki and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Art and Design.

I am a member of the Finnish Painters’ Union as well as the Swedish Artists’ National Organisation (Konstnärernas Riksorganisation). I serve as Chair of the Nordic Art Association in Finland. I continuously hold solo exhibitions and participate in group exhibitions as well as various artistic projects. My most recent solo exhibitions were at Galleria A2 in Helsinki and Galleri Joella in Turku, and next year will have an exhibition at Västerås Art Hall.

Both independently and together with other artists, I have led workshops, taught, and collaborated with children, youth, and adults. Over the past year, I have also conducted workshops for visually impaired participants and worked with audio description. Sometimes the projects remain primarily a process; at other times, they result in a collective artwork.

I greatly enjoy working in artist residencies, where I can fully devote myself to painting. New environments also bring new impressions, deeper insights, and meaningful connections with other artists. Next year, I will be working at the Valamo Monastery residency and at Villa Lante in Rome, among others.
