Artist’s Statement

In a painting colors are settled side by side and one upon the other in a certain way that seems to be inevitable. Where does that come from? The language of a painting is not easily interpreted with words.

With a brush I try to reach for the sky and attempt to touch the edge of a cloud. As a subject the sky is charged with huge symbolic meaning, but it is also something one can process visually. It is air on the skin as well. The sky is also part of one's cultural scenery: We do not always know whether clouds and colors are natural or man-made. Nevertheless, the sky - heaven - also represents infinity, the sacred: Something that I believe is as essential to us as air itself.
