Artist’s Statement
I am a visual artist from Fiskars (b. 1970), primarily working in the medium of painting. I am deeply committed to my art and have been developing it for thirty years. I studied at the Art School Maa (1989–1994) in Helsinki, as well as at the Lahti Art Institute and the Stieglitz Academy of Art (2010–11) in Lahti and St. Petersburg. Since 1996, I have participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Finland and abroad. My work includes paintings and drawings, murals, community-based projects, and three-dimensional public art.
My art is characterized by bold colors and spatial structures. My abstract, dynamic paintings contain references to expressionism and constructivism, combining fundamental geometric elements with carefully considered compositions. As a counterbalance, they often feature spontaneous painting, where irregular brushstrokes merge with the rich polyphony and sensitivity of colors. My painting process typically begins with emotions and impulses emerging from the subconscious, evolving into a more intellectual approach, always with a touch of humor.
