Artist’s Statement

Majbritt’s art is characterized by a powerful charge of environmental experience. In her works, she also addresses environmental changes. The artist treasure chest and findings have source in her childhood and adolescence period in Nikkilä hospital.

Majbritt paints in saturated colours with connection to surrounding landscape. Her abstract paintings are observations that reflect the history of thought. Often the paintings are site-specific and reflect the status of knowledge and presence. In her works, the artist creates structural solutions as the natural continuum of the landscape.

Majbritt produce her works in subject matter. She uses her surroundings, plant colours, boats from archipelago, old banners or constructs artworks of the village area in the historical perspective, transforming it to a virtual form.

Majbritt chooses materials from everyday life, but those, which support thinking and hand co-operation. The interaction between the self and place is very important for the artist.

KESKUSTELUJA – discussions

Colours and structures are searching for their shape in the paintings. The artwork is made in its own language, until a balance between the elements is reached. The paintings in the exhibtion are made during 2019 and 2020.

My fourth exhibition in the Tila galleria is a continuation of a series of exhibitions and actions, where the community in the area, the exhibition visitors and the gallery are the focal point.

My previous communal actions (Malenan polku during 2014 and 2015, and Maalaus/Målning/Painting, 2018) in Tila galleria resonate in the background of my current work. The connection between my previous exhibitions and the current one, is an attempt to discuss through actions.

Welcome to the exhibition!

Opening hours: Tue-Fri 12-18, Sat-Su 12-16
