Bio

Matti Kalkamo was born in Tampere, Finland 1968. He studied at Kankaanpää Art School during years 1991-94. He has exhibited both nationally and internationally, among which: private exhibitions Galleria Sculptor, Helsinki, 2008; Studio K, Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, Helsinki 2008; group exhibitions in China, Germany, Sweden, Danmark, Switzerland, Turkey, Portugal. He has several public sculptures, among which: 3 colores, Main Police Station, Hämeenlinna, 2013; Ympyrähullut, Huittinen, 2012; Jumppahuiti, Sampo Comprehensive school, Tampere, 2009; Body Building & Demolition Ltd., Siilitie Comprehensive school, Helsinki, 2005.

The works of Kalkamo are three-dimensional scenes depicting the human existence. The sculptures of gloomy themes are handled with humor characteristic of him, sharp twists and shouts of his imagination and the logic of dreams. Materials vary from bronze and aluminium to recycled materials.
