Artist’s Statement

In the first half of the 90s, Merita Koskimies studied, exhibited, and participated in numerous writing groups
of literal actions in Northern Carelia, Finland. Later in the 90s, she studied painting and conceptual art taught
by Head Professor Miloš Šejn in Akademie Vytvarnych Umeni V Praze - the School of Conceptual
Tendencies in Prague. Her studies focused on the principles of bodily action in relation to the landscape and
the urban environment.

In the 2000s Merita Koskimies held numerous solo exhibitions and shows in Finland and Italy. One of her
leading artistic processes happened in Väinö Tanner Foundation’s artist studio in Mazzano Romano. Merita
painted figures, spirits, and manes in the environment. In 2000, an opus titled “Parturient“ was procured by
the Oulu Museum of Art OMA. A few years following, a painting named “Steamface” was purchased by the
Kouvola Art Museum.

In 2006, Merita Koskimies began studying multi-medium painting under the direction of Professor Andrea
Granchi in Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. In Granchi's school, Koskimies participated in several
exhibitions involving Libro d’Artista or “Artists’ Book”, including LIBRopera, Traiettorie Liberate, and
OggettoLibero. Merita also exhibited a monumental flagship painting in an expo, Start Point in Centro per
l’arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci.
