Artist’s Statement

Ida Nisonen (b.1981 Kangasala, FIN) is a multidisciplinary artist, art educator and mother of three children. She lives and works in Kerava, Finland. She graduated as a photographer from the Institute of Art and Design at the Lahti University of Applied Sciences and as a Master of Philosophy from the University of Jyväskylä. Especially her studies on feminist philosophy have had a significant impact on her art and artistic practices.

Nisonen works with photo- and video-based media, performance art and installation. Her video works are often based on a performative acts where she performs for the camera herself and she often uses self-portraits in her photography works. In her installations Nisonen uses recycled materials and materials found from the nature. Very often these found materials are the key to the forms and shapes of her installation.
