Artist’s Statement

I work in techniques of sculpting and painting. My artistic themes are often from the animal world, or based on the semi-abstract realities in nature. Horns or teeth and various sharp crescent forms or tails of unidentified animals can be seen throughout my work. What I’m trying to do, is to remember and feel certain spiritual dimensions that underline our human existence. Certain forms and objects have a primitive feel to them, and is part of our collective consciousness. Meditating on these forms and ideas serves as the main inspiration for my work.

I value the traditions of handwork, and try to keep my working methods simple. My sculptures are almost exclusively executed manually by carving with traditional tools, and my paintings are a material-conscious mix of pigments and binders.
