Artist’s Statement
Tokee´s work focuses on poetic documentary photography. Her work is based on observation and examination of nature and its elements.
By combining the spiritual and mystic elements of nature, with bare torsos or parts of the torso, she creates sensual images that combine humans and nature, the erotic and spiritual and the primitive and magical.
Through her photography she aims for displaying the unity of mankind with nature as well as the individual’s selfhood becoming one with the infinity of the nature.
She’s facinated by primitive mythology, in which the human was a significant part of nature, one with a soul and as a part of the holy. In the Finno-Ugric folklore, the abnormal and unusual natural phenomena as well as the exceptional places, animals and plants received particular appreciation.
Her work becomes reality through spending time in the nature, by wondering around, searching for exceptional places and elements shaped by nature. It is these elements that she then uses in the settings she have set up to create images.
