Artist’s Statement

Piia Rossi’s artistic practice is multidisciplinary and research-driven, combining sculpture, painting, textile works and paper-based pieces. Trained both as a printmaker and as a jewellery artisan, her background informs a deep sensitivity to materials, a refined craft-based approach, and an ability to create precise, carefully constructed details.

Her works often explore belonging, rootedness, memory and the fragility of existence through material processes, moving between personal experience and broader cultural and temporal layers.

Rossi works with everyday and naturally sourced materials such as mud, clay, porcelain and paper twine. She engages with these materials slowly and physically, allowing them to act as carriers of memory and traces.

Her works shift between large-scale, spatially defining forms and small, hand-crafted objects. As a whole, Rossi’s practice embodies both delicacy and weight: it acknowledges the transience of life while seeking, through materiality and making, ways to belong, to hold, and to continue.
