Artist’s Statement

I am Svetlana Ruoho, an academically trained painter specializing in portrait painting. I work with a wide range of painting and drawing techniques.

Nature is a central source of inspiration for me, and I often work outdoors. The interaction between humans and nature is a theme that deeply resonates with me as an artist.

In my painting, I strive to create a sense of air and vitality — to break the two-dimensional surface and open it into a spatial and profound experience.

Bio

Svetlana Ruoho graduated in 2000 from the Ilya Repin Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg. She has lived and worked in Finland since 2012. Her studio is located in the former Ateljeesäätiö premises in Kilo, Espoo.


Ruoho is a member of the Finnish Painters’ Union and the Russian Union of Artists, as well as the Espoo Visual Artists Association (EKT) and the Jyväskylä Artists’ Association (JTS). She also serves actively on the board of Espoon Taiteilijakilta.


She has over 20 years of experience in portrait painting. Her works are included in several public collections in Finland, including those of the cities of Helsinki, Savonlinna, and Tornio, as well as the collections of the University of Helsinki, the University of Turku, and the Chapter of the Evangelical Lutheran Diocese of Oulu.


Ruoho regularly holds solo exhibitions and participates in group exhibitions. She works as an art teacher and leads drawing and painting courses in Finland and Italy. She also creates commissioned portraits for private clients.
