Artist’s Statement

My subjects often approach nature and animals. Forests, flowing waters, mountains and skies, frogs, birds and lizards or the sea and flowers. I work my subjects away from reality into my own unique formal language. My works are more pictures of the relationship with the surroundings than their depiction.

I mainly create my works in gravure and oil paintings, and combine these techniques with each other. I have also produced public works on, for example, aluminum, concrete and steel.
I live in Tampere, on the shores of Lake Pyhäjärvi, and I work on the third floor of Nanso-fabrik in Nokia. I graduated as a Visual Artist in 1984 and have been working in the profession ever since. My works have been exhibited in many private and joint exhibitions both in Finland and abroad. My works are in numerous private and public collections both in Finland and abroad.
