Artist’s Statement
FROM MY LIFE AND ART
I was born in 1943 in Seinäjoki, Finland. My interest in drawing and painting developed already during my early school years. As a teenager I participated in art competitions and won several prizes. Still in school I started to paint under my father’s tutelage. Even later my father Oiva Polari, being an artist himself, continued as my teacher and my mentor supporting me as an aspiring young artist. My first joined art exhibition was in my hometown Seinäjoki in 1963 and my first private art exhibition was in Helsinki in 1970. Over the years the subjects of my paintings have been mainly, cells, people, animals, plants, masks, wings and the sun and the moon. In my art I like to play with strong, bright colours. My paintings are playful and humorous with some erotic undertones. My interest in ancient and primitive cultures is easily detected. My aim as an artist is to bring colour, joy, imagination and humour into people’s lives.
As a recognition for my greative artistic work, I received a supplementary artist pension from a Ministry of Education in 2008.
