Artist’s Statement

To me, photography is the language of humanity.

My photography is born from a curiosity and respect for nature, the diverse cultures, and the world’s ways of life. The timelessness and mystery of art captivate me. Art is the language that bridges the now and the eternal in conversation.

Silence plays a central role in my art. In my photographs, the grooves carved into the coastal rocks by the Ice Age, the dancing shadows on the walls of my home, or the smoke of incense floating in a temple reflect humanity’s connection to the passage of time - its relationship with the eternal.

Photography has always been a beloved artistic method for me. Every time I photograph, I reconnect with the essence of things. In my photography lights, shadows, and colors convey my longing for irrationality and a painterly quality in my pictures.

Today, photography has become a democratic tool for creating art. It is within reach of almost everyone. Each one of us has some sort of relationship with photography - whether that be as a photographer, as a subject, or as an observer. We can read one another’s photographs relatively well, regardless of our differences in language or culture.

Art increases our mutual human understanding and empathy in the world. Art is a human right.
