Artist’s Statement

White porcelain table settings with performance images and texts are recognizable elements of the Art of Finnish Conceptual Artist JP (Juha-Pekka) Väisänen.

In his artwork JP is interested in ownership, interaction and coincidence.

At art exhibitions conceptual object trouvé porcelain named after JP´s performance venues, are for sale or on loan from their owners.

JP works as Conceptual Artist based on Artist´s Manifesto written in 1990. JP has done performances in twenty different countries for over 30 years.

JP has graduated at Helsinki Academy of Fine Arts (´90) and done shorter time studies in Mexico at La Esmeralda in Mexico City and New York State University at Albany, Ny, USA.

JP is member of new media art artist´s association Muu and the Union of Journalists in Finland.

Finnish Nationa Broadcasting company YLE has published two documentaries of the Art of JP. 2005 "Kosmos, Taiteilijan Manifesti" and "1995 Taiteilijaelämää, Ei myytävänä".

According to the Artist´s Manifesto JP does not sell his collages but creates art to be property of the people.

Every year JP does in situ performances determined by coincidence, meets with people and gives away collages.

Performances produce new tableware, pictures and writings for exhibitions.

Current information

The 2024 collages and an article about the collages “Snake Waters” are displayed on the homepage. I asked the AI where I should meet my audience and present the latest collages this year. The AI replied, “On the Esplanade stage”. So that's where I'll go.
