Artist’s Statement

I am a printmaker. I use various methods of intaglio. The subjects of my prints are secondary, so are the interpretations related to the content. What is essential is the sensation of finding new things during the work and a possibility of processing my life through the pictures.

Bio

Vappu Johansson is a visual artist from Helsinki. She studied at the Free Art School and Aalto University. She graduated with a Master of Arts degree in 1990. Her specialization in printmaking began with her work at the Grafiris studio in Helsinki. She is a founding member of the Arabian Taidegraafikot Association, which maintains a printmaking workshop. Her areas of expertise include water-soluble grounds for metal graphics and photopolymer.

 

Vappu Johansson has participated in numerous international exhibitions. In 2014, she was nominated for the Queen Sonja Print Award. She has held solo exhibitions in Finland and abroad since 1993.
