Artist’s Statement
Visual artist, esotericist
I am Aeon Lux, a visual artist and artist-expert from Seinäjoki. I work with ceramic sculpture, painting, drawing and performance art.
What exists, how does it exist, and what is the nature of reality? My art-making is driven by the desire to explore reality. I work on these metaphysical questions from an esoteric perspective. My thinking is largely inspired by the thoughts of the left-hand path, such as tantra.
In recent years, I have especially dealt with the relationship between dreaming and reality. My point of view is that dreaming and pursuing dreams drives us towards the conflict between the inner and outer world, causing suffering. My solution is to surrender to a world where none of your dreams will come true. I speak of this as “the bliss of total failure”.
It is typical for me to work on narrative works based on fictional texts I have written. The texts repeat e.g. a spiritual journey, the cycle of the soul, parallel realities and the pursuit of a fulfilling life.
My works are figurative and I am inspired by the beauty of the human body. In my art, I play with the characters' genders, turn archetypes on their head and connect seemingly contradictory themes. With this way of processing, I try to "unite" things, i.e. remove the illusion of dichotomy.
In addition to my own artistic activities, I work as an expert. I curated a performance club for Seinäjoki Kunsthalle and I’m a vice president in Taike’s the Arts Council of Ostrobothnia.
I graduated as a visual artist (AMK) from Kankaanpää Art School in 2017. I am member of the Association of Finish Sculptors.
