Artist’s Statement

The main thrust of Petra Kaminen Mosher's work is the abstraction of natural forms: landscape and the flora and fauna within it, and the human figure. Through the primary mediums of oil and acrylic paint on canvas, she deconstructs images into elemental colours, shapes and values making way for a landscape or portrait with new colour and value relationships which are best described as lyrical abstraction. She has been referred to as a colorist and neo-traditionalist.

Petra Kaminen Mosher works in her studio at Theodorinpuisto in Tuira, Oulu. Studio visits are by appointment and during open studio events.

Bio

Petra Kaminen Mosher was born and raised in New York City. She graduated from Boston University’s College of Fine Arts in 2002 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting. After spending a few years working on the East Coast, she relocated to Finland in the fall of 2004. She works as a fine arts painter and textile designer and weaver.
