Juha Laakso

Juha Laakso is a printmaker and a visual artist whose primary means of expression is photopolymer gravure. His prints are aesthetic observations of everyday nature. In making art, the destination of a journey is not destination, but the journey traveled. The destination is the destination is the end result of what was experienced during the making process. It is a process during insights and experiences are the link of being human.
The technique photopolymer gravure combines the tradition of printmaking with modern times. There are many steps in the technique: editing the image with photoshop, printing the film to be exposed, manufacturing the printing plate, exposing the plate and hand printing the print image.
The grainy and soft imprint of the method is reminiscent of aquatint technique and creates rich tones from soft light to deep velvety darkness
