As J.J.Winckelman said: "The imitation (of the classical art)is the opposite of copying. Represents the opening of the imagination for the creation of new, modern works."
Born in 1988 in Helsinki, Finland, Sofia Kukkonen studied at the Academy of Fine Arts , Florence and currently lives and works in the hills of Tuscany. Her work represents the ancient and neoclassical statues in a fresh, contemporary manner. She aims to give to the viewers a moment in the beauty, in the middle of the detailed marble faces, flower garlands and bouquets of her statues. Sofia's work is based on a meticulous red chalk drawing following the Renaissance masters' way and her figures are the result of her meticulous dedication to the human anatomy.
Sofia Kukkonen has exhibited her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions, art fairs and art competitions in Helsinki, Milan, New York and Abu Dhabi.
