Artist’s Statement
Born 17 July 1939 in the town of Muhos, Finland.
Graduated as a teacher from the Raahen seminaari teacher education institute in 1966.
Studied painting at the Vapaa taidekoulu (Free Art School) Helsinki 1966-67.
Worked as an art teacher at the Mukkulan yhteiskoulu coeducational secondary school in Lahti 1967-68, and the Muhos secondary and upper secondary school 1968-79. Worked as an art teacher at the Oulujoki-Opisto Collage 1971-79.
Became full-time painter in 1979.
EXHIBITIONS
Numerous solo and joint exhibitions at home and abroad.
AWWRDS, TITLES AND HONORABLE
A number of art awards and scholarships.
Artist Pension in 2000.
OP: Trainee Scholarship.
Muhos Koivu and star of person 2008
Honorary Doctorate, University of Oulu, Faculty of Education 2009.
Published nine collections of poetry. Two novel and picture book: Light and Color painter.
Interests: Literature, writeing, music and gardening.
