Artist's Statement

My inspiration is landscape and manmade structures.
Perception is the basis of my inspiration although I want to carry it out freely. My latest paintings are inspired by Voyage Pittoresque. In the 18th century artists made journeys around Europe to seek an perfect landscape. In my paintings landscape changes from a modest pothole to a massive mountain hill.
I paint on aluminium.

Bio

b. 1980 in Ähtäri, works in Turku.
Graduated from Turku Arts Academy in 2006 (BFA).

Paints with oils on aluminium and on canvas.

Rantanen has exhibited his work in several joint- and group exhibitions from 2005 onwards, for example in Lahti Art Museum (2008), Seinäjoki Art Hall (2005, 2017), Turku Art Museum (2010) and Gallery Toolbox, Berlin (2014).

Rantanen's latest solo exhibition was at Tm-Gallery in Helsinki (2019). Before that he had his solo shows in Gallery Å, Turku (2018) and in Poriginal gallery, Pori (2018).

Rantanen's works are in Finnish state collections, Aine Art Museum in Tornio, Salo Art Museum, Ähtäri town collections and in several private collections.
