I am reimagining watercolor painting as a medium within contemporary art, drawing on the impression of lightness and ease associated with the technique. Watercolor is often thought of as a medium for children; it is seen as an effortless tool for sketching. I find this an appealing starting point, and I want to use watercolors to express thoughts and stories about emotionally charged topics, such as war or the ecological crisis. My paintings often have a deeper, more serious layer beneath their beautiful surface. I enjoy the act of painting and the movement of the water. The luminosity of watercolor keeps me excited about the technique time and again. Since 2016, I have also used my paintings as the basis for large-scale commissioned prints and animated works.
