Artist's Statement

Hey,

I am a visual artist from Turku and I love this work.
I became a visual artist because it attracted and fascinated me very much since I was a child. I look for harmony, balance, peace in my work and I consider it important that the work is breathable.

The most important thing in art is that I can realize something beautiful on a clean canvas, something that has never existed and thus find a sense of success. The feeling of having created something that you like is great.

I hope that I could encounter another viewer's soulscape with my work.

Bio

I was born in Piikkiö as the first child in a working-class family in 1951. When there were three children, my parents divorced. In childhood, the Karelian family was important. There was no more special school in the rural village and after primary school I graduated as a modist. But art always fascinated my mind since childhood, beautiful colors, shapes, lights and shadows.

In 1971, with my friend's encouragement, I aspired to the Turku Art Association's drawing school (now the Academy of Arts) at the time, the oldest in the country. Numerous children's portraits made it possible to go to school, and I often hitchhiked from Piikkiö to Turku and back on school trips.

After school, my career progressed largely doing portrait commissions, for private homes and public spaces. About 25 years ago, a different expression started to fascinate me and I wanted to metaphorically say: "jump without a parachute!" I have also taken numerous study trips in Europe, e.g. Paris. My production has continued since then in different seasons in different series. Unfortunately, the weak economic situation limits the holding of exhibitions. I am an Arte ry, member of the Turku artists' club and the Association of Artists.
