Artist’s Statement
I am inspired by the diversity of nature, rooting in the land, myths of the Nordic region, spirits of the past and mysticism around the world.
Trees, mental landscapes and the genius loci are my favorite subjects. Hidden levels in my semi-abstract paintings can be found by the traces cut into the birch plywood with a wood carving knife.
In graphic art works I combine woodcut with monotypes printed with plants. Recently, I have been crumpling Japanese paper using the momigami technique and making collages of my works using wheat starch paste. The durability and versatility of paper combine the levels of time and thought.
