Artist’s Statement
I am a Visual Artist working in drawing and sculpture. As an artist I connect feelings with fantasy.
As a painter I paint with colour pencils. Colour pencils are for me the palette and brash. My paintings are intertextual collages formed out of persons and fragments borrowed from art history. Art history is my inspirator and model. In that way I weave my inner feelings into art.
I work always within a thema: e.g. my integration process as a Dutchman into the Finnish society, the climate change and other current issues.
In my sculptures of clay the human face is my sourse of inspiration. I freely model portraits with strong emotional expression. I have called them "Echoes out of My Inner Gallery", "Ballads" and "Closeups".

Current information
2025:I have written the third book about my arts: Sketches by Willem Krijgsman. The book has 300 pages and 280 colour pictures. It deals with sketches I have made between 1990 and 2010. Most sketches are drawn in sanguine or Indian Red colour, trying out the Old Master's way of drawing and sketching. The items, I had chosen as my models, were randomly taken from pictures at hand - interesting, inspiring photographs from newspapers, magazines, art books, picture books etc. In three art books I have introduced all my art - it feels like a trilogy. 2024:
I have written the second book about my arts: The Play of Emotion and Fantasy. The book has 360 pages and 300 colour pictures. It deals with my earlier artworks and artworks untill 2015: paper collages, assemblages, junk art, drawings and clay sculpture. It is published in English and available at bookshops online and as e-book.

2023:
I have written the book: Fifty-Fifty, about my integration process into the Finnish society. My integration has been by culture and by my own visual art. The book has been published in Finnish.
2020-21-22
I continue painting with colour pencils the series called: 'Down by the River'.
2019:
October: Vantaa, Gallery K, group exhibition, The Finnish Painters' Union 90th Anniversary Exhibition, participating with two colour pencil paintings.
September-November: Svenska Teatern, Turku: 'The Finnish Epos Kalevala'-thema exhibition. Arranged by taiko.art. Participating with four colour pencil paintings.
