Artist’s Statement

An artist's professional development of style and the ideal of lifelong learning

"An artist has an internal need to alter one's immediate milieu, to educate and to evolve in the field of visual arts", said Airi Kianto from Rantasalmi. "Painting, as creating imagery in general, is part of a larger visual environment and a way in which an individual can make an influence on surrounding life."

According to the artist the core competence in the profession of visual arts consisted of two skills: drawing and painting. The basic know-how had been obtained by years of long-span practice. When creating a first-rate work of art, the artist's personal experiences and idioms had to be be called upon. "I have an atelier in Rantasalmi and Espoo", Airi stated. "Visual arts are my life's work. Abstract forms and portraits are most often the subject of my paintings."

With the aid of abstraction, the motif becomes more and more reduced before dissolving completely. The outcome of this
process is a pure piece of art, i.e. a painting or a sculpture. A painting always conveys a message; even a modest piece
of art is like a proper speech with all its basic elements. The message, ambiance, colours, motion and form all engage in
a dialogue, forming a harmonic entirety
