Artist’s Statement
“It is joyful and refreshing to create something that did not exist before – and then it does!”
“The breath of life, the power and beauty of nature, and the many emotions that can be shared through them.”
Rivers, forests, fields, and meadows were the everyday surroundings of my childhood in an Ostrobothnian rural village. The significance of nature emerged in my paintings in the 1970s, after my art studies in Helsinki, when I lived in the province of Lapland for 13 years.
All the richness of nature, its details, the vastness, and the emotions brought by light and weather became the essential content of my watercolor and oil paintings.
Plein air—being and working in nature—was the inspiring starting point of the Impressionists and me.
Today, I also am interested in the deeper symbolism expressible through nature, as well as human relationships and the poetry of life's phenomena.
My works are included in several collections of art museums, cities, and municipalities, as well as in hospitals, banks, etc.
My art is also represented abroad in Sweden, Denmark, Great Britain, Portugal and Russia. See CV for details.
