Artist’s Statement

I am a visual artist living and working in Helsinki. Through art I am able to express something that might otherwise remain unspoken or invisible. Painting, drawing or creating any work is a way for me to process things, understand myself and the world around me. The focus of my work is the renewal and experimentation of my visual expression.

I was awarded a one-year working grant from the Finnish Cultural Foundation from the Tellervo Kijanen Foundation in April 2025.

Bio

Leena Katriina Ehrling (b. 1966, Joutseno) is a visual artist who is an art professional with a Master of Arts in Fine Arts degree. She lives and works in Helsinki.

Her artistic work moves on the borders of painting, drawing and experimental visual methods. Ehrling's works are characterized by sensitivity and a sense of material. She draws inspiration from everyday life, nature and humanity – invisible layers through visual language. His works are created through the interplay of reflection, intuition and material.

"Leena Katriina Ehrling's works fit the diverse concept of informalism in their expression. Some of the works on display are abstract, emphasizing gesture, others have a representational subject, and some works are located on the border between non-representational and figurative art." Kulttuuritoimitus, Kirsi Uusitalo 21.07.2025

In 2025, Ehrling received a one-year working grant from the Finnish Cultural Foundation's Tellervo Kijanen Foundation. He has participated in several group exhibitions and is currently preparing for individual exhibition projects.
