Artist’s Statement

Man often serves as the basis for my work. I am fascinated by the way people reflect in time and space: as wretched, contemplative and spiritual beings. The personal history of a person is also an interesting source of inspiration.

I mostly use bronze, aluminium and wood as the medium for my sculptures. Silkscreen, monotype and lithography are the most inherent techniques in print-making for me

The adoption of quality and a high work ethic are important factors for me. Material and technical knowledge are equally important elements, as is creating content for my work.

Bio

Jarkko Samuli Liutu was born 15th of february 1983 in town of Imatra, Finland.

As a child Liutu was already interested in drawing and modeling. Small scout knife was always hanging on his belt while he wandered in the forest.

Twisted twigs and branches fascinated and he was always stunned by the beauty of the nature. Strong connection with nature was obvious for the Greater Saimaa area born.

Nowadays Liutu lives and works in Savonlinna. He works mainly as a sculptor, jewel-smith (mostly precious metals) and as a printmaker. The materials he uses in his sculptures are mostly bronze, aluminium and wood, printmaking techniques are mostly monotype and silkscreen / serigraphy.
