Artist’s Statement

My work arises from material and philosophical thinking as well as personal, sometimes contradictory, feelings. I process the interaction between human and nature, how am I part of the material earth and part of its changing.

I explore, in my paintings and drawings, the nature of color both in tangible and intangible way, including in relation with digital technology. Art history and longer time perspective interest me and deepen the process. I currently paint with tempera and oil. Part of the pigments I collect from nature.

Through art it is possible to study life, find something new and unknown, look for beauty and find connections. My themes have been nature, landscape, Calvary, still life and entropy.

Bio

I am originally from Rovaniemi and Helsinki-based painter and visual artist (born 1977). I work with painting, drawing, installation, nature, poetry, pigments and materials. 

I graduated from the Painting Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in summer 2018 (KuM). Previously, I studied at the University of Lapland Faculty of Arts (MA 2006) and Montréal, Faculty of Fine Arts, Concordia University Union. Since 2007 I have worked as a painter and held solo exhibitions in Finland as well as in Berlin and in Italy since 2002. I have participated in collective exhibitions at home and abroad since 2001. I have involved in mural painting projects and one environmental art project. I have had secondary teaching periods and courses at the Rovaniemi School of Arts, the University of Lapland and the Turku Academy of Arts. I have spent the residence times in Berlin, the Czech Republic, Italy and Japan, as well as the artist participated in international meetings since 2000. My artworks are in Rovaniemi City Art Collection, Wihuri Art Collection / Rovaniemi Art Museum and State Art Collections. I am a member of the Artists 'Association of Lapland and the Finnish Painters' Union aspirant member.
