Artist’s Statement
I express myself through watercolour painting, focusing on themes of stillness, tranquillity and our relationship with nature. Nature features prominently in my earlier work, but recent experiments led me into the world of science fiction.
Both nature and sci-fi landscapes inspire awe and challenge us to consider our place in the vastness of existence, whether it be the beauty of natural landscapes or the limitless possibilities of futuristic, hopefully better worlds. Sometimes the absence of nature is a way of demonstrating its great importance. What if we didn't have it? Is home elsewhere? Are there other possibilities? The earth is precious. To me, spaceships represent community, survival, a mobile ecosystem, rather than a vehicle.
Through my art, I seek to explain the mystery that we are a small link in a vast, interconnected universe. I love the sense of space and the vastness of landscapes. Somehow the human ego gets into its true, small, proportions.
I paint these works with watercolors on paper. I like to keep my art a part of human culture by representing the subject with a tangible, organic material.
In addition, my works explore issues of perception and understanding. I challenge conventional interpretations of forms and objects, encouraging viewers to see things in new ways and expand their imagination.
Yoga and meditation are an integral part of my artistic process, and provide a foundation for self-reflection and self-expression.
