VirpLehto / Visusal artist

I am living in Joutsa in the middle of the forest in the central of Finland.

I am a professional painting artist, using mainly oil and watercolour techniques and also mix media on my works. I do also performance and environmental art. I love colours and symbolism.

The most important in Art is the immaterial, immediate and invisible sensations of pleasure that art causes in your mind.

Bio

Visual artist, Virpi Lehto, b. 1957, Jyväskylä
lives and works in Joutsa.

In addition to painting, she does installations , environmental art and performance. She has been a member in firesculpture groups and done action paintings in dance performances.

She has worked in the field of art in various positions in community and multidisciplinary projects. She has been a specialist in the Arts Council of Central Finland at the moment.

Lehto studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona (Facultad de Bellas Artes) in 1986 - 92, specializing in contemporary art and painting. In 2011, she graduated from the Lahti University of Applied Sciences. She has also graduated from the Lahti Institute of Design in 1985 as a clothing designer.

Since 1992 Lehto has participated in various group exhibitions annually and has organized solo exhibitions both in Finland and abroad.
She has been setting up and organizing UudenPolvenMuseo -contemporary art exhibitions at the Säynätsalo Fiberboard factory and in the old Kangas papermill factory 2006 - 2015.

Virpi Lehto's works include Art collections of Jyväskylä University, Jyväskylä City, Jyväskylä Art Museum, Seinäjoki Educational Consortium, Jyväskylä University and Keski-Suomen sairaanhoitopiiri.
