Artist’s Statement

I handle human life in a versatile and compassionate manner with both human and animal imagery.

My point of view is of the one who sees oneness of everyone on this earth when we pass the veil of surface.

I come from twenty years of portrait photography, shooting mainly artist PR.

In our sessions I needed first to establish trust in my subject. Sometimes it was created to the level where I was granted access to a fleeting moment of seeing inside another man’s soul. Especially in my work portraying people it is from these rare exquisite and startling visions that my artwork stems.

Animals on the other hand are giving me a wider range to portray human life. In this work I'm discussing with a human viewer what we could learn and relearn from them.

I’m looking for lasting layers of contemplation and even healing properties in the acceptance of human condition.

Bio

Master of Arts, I graduated from the University of Art and Design in 2001. I worked for 20 years as a professional portrait photographer until I moved to the countryside to focus on fine arts. I live on a small old farm in Koskenkylä region where I keep a summer gallery (Galleria Solis). I belong in a Helsinki based artist group called The Heavenly Academy. We draw once a week live model and have regularly exhibitions together. Of these drawings I am working on an art book called 3 Min People (Kolmen minuutin kansaa). These mainly ink drawings portray the array of humanity in motionless moments. I make illustrations on demand. My working materials are acrylic, aquarelle, pastel, crayon and ink. I also make sculptings of plaster of Paris and little installations of found objects and plastic and clay animals. Hobbies include poetry (Varpusen luita, WSOY 2008), music (Hill of Beans-CD) and dogs (taidepostikortit).
