Artist’s Statement

I am a contemporary artist based in Espoo, Finland. For me, space is a crucial element of making art. I think that this is the reason for making sculpture, site specific art, environmental art and installations which have been my main art forms from the year 2000 on. I have also worked with photography and video.

Versatility in using and combining different materials and techniques characterizes my artistic expression. Wood and clay are influential materials to me and to my senses, but I have also used fabric, metal, glass, pieces from nature and found objects in my artistic work. Light, sound and space as immaterial elements interest me as well.

As I work, I often meet challenges and solve problems in handling unknown materials and in working along with the spirit of the space or site I am within. I take this as granted and enjoy possibilities which gradually open to me.

My working process is slow and takes time. As a result the process produces single artworks which intuitively take artistic presentations in thematic entities like fragility, our environmental relationships and metamorphosis of objects and spaces.

I feel that in an artistic process I bring out intimate experiences into an outer, concrete level. By making an intimate experience visible collective information and channels for sharing are created. In social art, performances and pedagogical projects sharing is concrete and intensively present. These experiences have deepened my understanding of the profound meaning and diversified dimensions of art.

From the 2001 on my works have been shown in solo and group exhibitions in Finland and abroad.
