Bio

Milla Toukkari (1986) is a visual artist living and working in Helsinki, Finland. Toukkari has graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in the Unuversity of Arts in Helsinki in 2015, and from Aalto University School of Arts, Design and Architecture in 2012. In 2014 Toukkari co-founded KELLARIPRESS, an open printmakers’ workshop and studio space in Vallila, Helsinki. Her own studio is in Kellari still.

Toukkari has had several private exhibitions as well as been initiating collaborative shows in Finland, especially between 2015-2018. She has installed her works on view for example at Huuto Gallery, Photographic Center Peri, Å Gallery, Kone Gallery, Uusi Kipinä Gallery and Rajatila Gallery.

Toukkari works with different methods involved in printing. A spatial installation where printed matter is put into dialogue with video, sound and wall painting, is a typical way of exhibitioning for the artist.

In 2017 a compilation os essays was published by the Academy of Fine Arts in the University of the Arts Helsinki. Siirtämisen ja välittymisen taide (The Art of Transferring and Transmission) was edited by Päivikki Kallio, and Toukkari contributed to the collection with a text called Kuilun filosofia (The Philosophy of the Void). The essence of the printed image encompasses some of the key questions in Toukkari’s artistic practice, which she would gladly call artistic research.
