Minttu Esantytär Koponen: Carevan

Completion year: 2015
Technique: Interactive performance
Carevan is a community art project built in a caravan, where the participants can brake ceramic dishes. It gives an opportunity to unload anger and express emotions in a safe, controlled environment. Afterwards you can stay to discuss about the feelings that the attendance awoke.

There is a natural, non-violent way to cope with almost every humane emotion, except rage. There is something primitive and soothing about demolishing, it opens pent-up feelings of anger. Stressed body is in a constant state of emergency, which leads to physical symptoms when prolonged. One could figure, that stressful emotions can be reduced by calm actions like meditating, when in fact you are only postponing your feelings. You can achieve balance also by using rages own, confrontational energy when demolishing things. Carevan was funded by Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
