Ilkka Kivelä: Hiljaisista kaipauksista (Of silent longings), 2023
The work is a tribute to the typical imagery of silent films produced in Finland between 1918 and 1931. The topics were usually focused on emphasizing the national characteristics of the time and on the literature of the period of national romanticism, as well as on plays in which supernatural things and natural phenomena played a significant role in the description from time to time.
The objects to be photographed are motionless sculptures with intense gazes that act as protagonists of the story, from the first and last frames of silent films before the text boards. The background soundtrack paints the story forward towards the last dark frame.
