Mari Suso: Memento mori, Miekkajärvi. ( a tribute to Georgia O´Keeffe)
Georgia O'Keeffe had sun-bleached cow skulls she collected from the deserts of New Mexico in her studio. I also have a cow skull in my studio. It was found in my grandmother's old cowshed on the shore of Lake Miekkajärvi in the early 2000s.
Like a Memento mori or vanitas painting, the painting tells about the transience of everything.
The cowshed is gone. On the shore of Lake Miekkajärvi, all that is left of what was before is a small patch of forest. And the memories.
