Inkeri Makkonen: Minussa muistaa – In me remembers
My grandfather's old fishing boat and the quirks and pricks of my life,
patched up with jute twine. Twenty years ago, the subject began to weigh
on me. With a grant from the Kordelin Foundation in 1999,
I compiled material for "The Finnish Wooden Boat – an Object
and an Experience". For the last two and a half years,
I have been patching the boat up with jute twine.
The work was exhibited at the Taidesalonki – Konstsalongen (owned by Christina Bäcksbacka), the Turku Ecumenical Art Chapel, and now, with its stories, at the Kiihtelysvaara Local History Museum as a representative of a disappearing boat model.
