Antti Immonen: Saha soi
Suola-Kusti Park
Joensuu
The Saha soi sculpture stands on the site where the Penttilä Sawmill operated for over a century, playing a significant role in the development of Joensuu.
The two largest elements of the artwork are stainless steel arches whose wave-like forms refer both to saw blades and to the Pielisjoki River and other waterways along which logs were floated to the mill. Alongside the arches are components salvaged from the sawmill’s fire-damaged frame saws, as well as three bronze crows that allude to the origins of the names of the Penttilä area and the sawmill itself.
Next to the sculpture stands a restored frame saw. Together, the frame saw and the artwork form an ensemble that serves as a memorial to the Penttilä Sawmill
