Mia Seppälä: Sonic Waste for Seven Bins

Completion year: 2019
Technique: sound piece
Keywords: Mobile Sonic Walk, Feel Helsinki, SibaFest, MuTeFest, Taideyliopisto/Uniarts
The Mobile Sonic Walks -Walking Demo, Töölönlahti area, Helsinki, is a collaborative work of 8 movements. Each composer has worked on one movement. One of these works is my: Sound of waste, 7 compositions, duration: 30min.

Public dustbins are made neutral but still identifiable. In this area, their number indicates the desire to care for the environment, but also the need to control it. Through my work, I want to diversify the use of dustbins and explore the intangible dimension of waste.

This sound zone consists of sounds of  garbage and waste found in the area. The activated points are seven public dustbins in the area between Helsinki Music Center and Oodi Central Library. Each of them has its own identity to which the name of the work refers.
