Clovers are Harmonious and Decorative in Shape
Tiina Lamminen has drawn serial works from perception. Her works include the books Satakunnan taivaalliset auttajat (2002) that depicts statues of saints from the Satakunta region and Kustaa Hiekka ja antiikki (2003) that contains drawings of objects from the collection of Hiekka Art Museum. Now, 20 years later, she has drawn some of these images again. The drawings show how her way of seeing and perception have changed and how experience has influenced her observations.
The curator invited Lamminen to the summer exhibition referring to her earlier work. The book Kotipihan luonnonvaraisia kasveja (2005) contained drawings of the wild plants in the backyard of a block of flats. Now Lamminen has been drawing white clover and its way of growing. Clover is a forage plant and a decoration on the lawn; its stem and roots are beautiful to draw and help the plant spread. Clover is a well-known positive symbol, and its harmonious shape is decorative.
During the summer Lamminen wants to contribute to documenting the local flora around Purnu with the botanist Tapio Lahtonen. The wider question is why and how surveys of flora have been made, for example when school children find out about plants over summer or environmental studies are completed to find out about traditional rural biotopes. Nowadays, you can add your own observations to a shared map at laji.fi.
