Nanna Jalkanen: Between Moments and Breaths Hetkien ja hengitysten välillä
In this work, I paint a space where the concrete and lyrical meet. Dreamlike, slightly ethereal distant planets and shores. The distances between objects fill the space. Do they represent the distances between people? Or the state of a person, the relaxation inside you, the space between deep breaths? The piece is calm yet dynamic. Or is it the primordial sea where everything gradually condenses?
The painting was developed over a couple of years. I sought expression through experimentation and finally, the piece condensed into this form. It is painted on Canson art board (acid-free, sturdy) using various acrylic techniques from traditional brushwork to spray paint. Misty effects create the illusion of a calm, flowing space. Elsewhere in the painting, colors change smoothly and seamlessly, yet in some places, they differ starkly, through contrast.
The work is framed by a professional framer in a white wooden frame with a white mat (mount board). It is covered with True Vue UltraVue UV70 anti-reflective, UV-protective glass. This glass better showcases the colors and contrasts and facilitates the hanging of the painting as it does not produce disturbing reflections.
