The Flower of Life is a play art park designed and implemented by artist Sanna Karlsson-Sutisna for children under three years of age. Tender, wooden and bronze animals, colorful plexiglass walls, wooden sculptures imitating organic shapes, and the Imp of the Air rising from the ground invite children to play and transform the park into an experiential outdoor art exhibition.
Karlsson-Sutisna's artworks are inspired by the diversity of cultures, nature, and the environment. The materials, textures, and many small details combined in the sculptures of the play art park invite you to stop, explore, and be surprised.
The Flower of Life play art park was designed as part of an international EU project led by the University of Oslo, which investigated how young children experience and interact with professional art. The sister park Fleur de Vie was completed in Arques-la-Bataille, France, in 2006. The residents of Pikku-Huopalahti, which surrounds Tilkaniitty, feel that the play art park has added a special and meaningful touch to the area. The peace and nature of the area invited them to create a place where young children can explore art.
