Saara Mesterton: Sydämeni laulu
Song of my heart is about death, about the confusion of a human being after the death of someone close. Meeting death in this way, a human being enters a strange middle ground, the ordinary life becomes remote, and consciousness becomes full of memories of moment shared with the deceased. It is this state of mind I am trying to give expression of, using the words of poem by Aleksis Kivi as the starting point of this work.
The painting "Song of my heart" consists of five panels, connected to each other by black supports. In the video I am on a performance voyage to the Grove of Tuoni, forest of death, in several seasons of the year, singing the poem of Aleksis Kivi about the same grove, to the melody composed by Jean Sibelius.
